Wow, there's a serious lack of Loveless appreciation on this board. Deerhunter's my favorite band, but nothing they've put out is on par with Loveless. It's a difficult album to get into, but the payoff is immense.

I was into MBV way before Deerhunter and I've spent plenty of time with Loveless, but I'll take Cryptograms every time.

For me, Loveless seems a bit laboured at times, like the band didn't know when to stop, like a fashion designer who keeps adding sequins and trinkets to a garment.

I haven't heard the last three quarters of Loveless in about eighteen months.

I absolutely adore Loveless. I agree with Oliver though, they didn't know when to stop. But at the same time, I feel like they were doing something amazing. Loveless is definitely one of my favorite albums though.

okay googleblogsearched & found a zip d/l of this & right now i have listened to "Soon" & i immediately realized why i pretty much hate this record. "Soon" just sounds so fucking dated. especially the drums (drums machine???) and ESPECIALLY that bassline. i just have a natural aversion to overprocessed/overcompressed 80's/90's plodding rock basslines like that. the ONLY redeeming quality this song even has it is buried vocal harmonies and, i have to admit, the awesome tsunami blasts of shoegaze distortion. and that is it.

both "Loomer" & "Touched" have passed by & i am still non-plussed. "To Here Knows When" is playing now & i am officially vertiginously annoyed.

well i'll just BE that then. maybe there is something wrong w/ me. fine. i like the distortion & i like say the last 30 secs on "Only Shallow." that is it. this album will be summarily deleted from my hard drive & i am desperately looking for Slowdive's "Souvlaki Space Station" on YOUTUBE so i can fucking have my day un-RUINED and make me feel better about life after being subjected to a late afternoon of torturous "music" that Loveless is. i betcha they play this album at Abu Gahib.

i just don't get the record. i never said it was a bad record. just one i don't get. i don't see how a band that can make such a beautiful song like "No More Sorry" & then make an album like this and then have a record shrouded in over-hyped indie-rock nostalgia?

what was the point of this thread again my friend i forgot. that Bradford Cox is the anti-christ. that Deerhunter has called it quits...my memory is not what it is used to be sorry...
