I'm assuming some of you dudes are fans. What is your preferred album from them? I've always been a huge fan of Beaches + Canyons but lately I have been really into Load Blown.

Also, Lazy TV is the jam of the year.

I love 'em. Creature Comforts is probably my fav. Followed by Beaches and Canyons and Load Blown. "Nite Creme" was the standout from Repo for me, similarities to previous works aside. Also, I like what they did with Chocolate Cherry more than Repo.

Eric Copeland is a badass on his own too. I love Hermaphrodite and the second half of the full length album version of Alien in a Garbage Dump.

Agreed. "Oreo" always does it for me too. Reminds me of mid to late 70's Brian Eno.

i really need to sit down & actually listen to "Beaches & Canyons." i remember when it came out i totally glossed over it. not becuz i didn't know about it but i was just listening to other stuff at the time. & there was a LOT of stuff coming out at that time. from that area. that scene...

I.U.D. is an excellent grupo.

anyway i d/l Beahces and Canyons based on this thread & it blew my mind. everything you could want sonically. i listened to it so much that i literally became sensory deprived & i had to delete it from my hardrive, w/ the hopes of scoring a tangible product later. but now i want to listen to this again. like right now...

i still don't like their newer stuff. i listened to Load Blown once. & i was not feeling that at all.

beaches & canyons is my favorite, too. i don't understand why, though. there's not much to it, but yet that works for them a whole lot better than their other albums, which are pretty cool, too. i guess it's just more ambient or something.

i think that is why it is a brilliant record. becuz it seems as if "there's not much to it." on the surface. but there is a lot going on with record: sonically dense. labyrinth textures. deceptive collaging. sometimes i forget it's even on.

even w/ the rest of the stuff i don't like. that fact that Black Dice are coaxing those sounds out of effect pedals & stuff (not instruments...) & nothing more, is really quite amazing. only a few bands can really pull that off. but Black Dice are like that masters of it. from a methodology stand-point it is almost like 'reverse noise.' & the fact that they literally gave birth to bands like teh Fuck Buttons is really quite admirable.

someone noted that to be into Animal Collective you really have to be 'stoned' to get it. i think that is really unfortunate from a music stand-point. which is why i don't like Animal Collective. you don't have to be high to appreciate Beaches and Canyons. it is somewhat of a demanding record but i think it can be easily appreciated on a surface-level. i mean so much post-rock stuff falls short becuz its not intriguing enough. it just seems like boring instrumental rock.

listening to it now, this makes total sense. it's like i understand it more after reading an explanation like that.

that bullshit hipster assertion. & the false connotation thereto [sic]. that black dice is a noise band. is complete bullshit. other than that. i respect black dice as an entity.

peace.
